Artist Statement: The outer shape of this piece represents the shape and size of the The Great Salt Lake in 1985. The area shown in blue represents its size in 2022. The lake has lost nearly half of its surface area and its "ecological collapse" has begun. We have not taken care of this unique and beautiful ecosystem, and the results are disastrous.
Artist Bio: Jane Roberts DeGroff is a textile artist based in Spring City Utah. She was born and raised in western Wyoming and has always loved art and working with fabric. Jane studied at Brigham Young University where she received a BFA in printmaking. She eventually discovered the art of shibori and it has become her passion. Her work is created by using a variety of manual resist dyeing techniques and natural dyes. She enjoys harvesting local plants to make fabric dyes.
