Artist Bio:
Tyler's passion for art dates back to his earliest memories, where he explored colors and their connections to the world. After finishing high school in Virginia, he moved to Utah to formally study art at the University of Utah, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in 2000. Throughout his artistic journey, Tyler has focused on drawing, painting, printmaking, and ceramics. He distinguishes his work by using unconventional materials, such as roofing tar (asphalt), and experimenting with oil and water-based paints interchangeably. Tyler preserves the spontaneity of these materials, resulting in bleeding edges, dissolved areas, and beaded forms in his finished pieces. His meticulous approach involves layering coats of translucent "paints," transitioning from vibrant under-paintings to a limited color palette. The final pieces exhibit stark and raw aesthetics with intricately textured surfaces.
