This piece was an accident. Or, maybe it was a long time coming. It's probably both. I've been thinking about which media my images are best suited for and the thought of cutting and painting a wooden silhouette seemed worth trying out. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of making this blockhead and would like to make more. I like the size and shape of the piece and I like how it can stand on a shelf or be hung on a wall—abilities my paper and digital drawings lack. My brother, Chris Smiley, cut the head (thank you, Chris!) and I've since been scrabbling at how to do it on my own without buying costly, bulky tools. Have any ideas?
