Artist Statement: I strive to be a materials focused artist. A large portion of my practice is based on the use and reuse of paint and other mixed media in order to show reverence for each material and to allow the material itself to bring meaning to the work. I believe that the items I consume in my daily life, and while making art, represent how I spend my time, what choices I make, and where my priorities lie. They represent where I am from, the society and time period I live in, and my economic and social spaces. My consumption and daily habits represent who I am as a person.
Reaching, stretching, lifting high. A child reaching for a loved one. A human hoping a God listens. Multiplying tasks, replenishing the world with our choices. Effort, growth, decay, confusion and reattempt. Trying over and over for a perfected life. Strength, success, failing, changing, moving forward again. Iterations.
