Artist Statement: Esther’s strength was her courage and love—powerful in the peaceful, humble way she was willing to risk everything for others. In this portrait, strength is shown the way heaven often shows it—quietly. Her bowed head and gentle posture shows bravery shaped by compassion and wisdom. This is courage that moves with tenderness, love that acts without display. Esther reminds us that the deepest power often arrives softly. The hand on Esther’s head represents a layered gesture: the thanks of her people, the king’s recognition, and the gentle blessing of heaven
Artist Bio: Julie Kay Berry is a Utah-based artist who tells human stories through her art. Guided by her faith in God and a lifelong love of travel, she approaches both life and creativity with curiosity, wonder, and joy.
Working in her signature mixed-media style, Julie creates original mono-printed papers that form richly layered backgrounds and intricate details. She then paints faces, hands, and other expressive elements in oil and acrylic, bringing warmth, emotion, and personality to each piece. Her work reflects not only the spirit of her subjects, but also her own—celebrating connection, beauty, and shared humanity.
Julie holds an art degree from Brigham Young University and pursued advanced studies at the Academy of Decorative Finishes in Scottsdale and The Day Studio in San Francisco. She has also studied with William Whitaker, Jenedy Paige, and Juliette Belmonte.
When she’s not creating, Julie treasures time with Mr. B and her greatest masterpieces—her five children and nineteen grandchildren. Her happy place is her studio, where imagination, faith, and joy take form on canvas. Through her art, Julie hopes to spark delight, curiosity, and creative inspiration in all who encounter her work.
