Artist Statement: Johanne is perched on a rock at the top of the mountain my mother hiked to in the summer to care and milk the cows. The spot is sacred to me. As you stand there and listen, you can feel the spirits of our ancestors dancing in the wind and sharing their love and support. I believe we are tied together through a love that never ends.
Artist Bio: Laila Flatebo Garza is a self-taught painter focused on portraits; figurative works, often set in the landscapes of Norway, where her parents were born; and paintings inspired by the life of Jesus. She has developed her skills through workshops with artists she admires, such as Casey Childs, Mike Malm, Dan Gerhartz, Beki Tobiasson, and Dan Wilson.
She hopes her work helps the viewer feel the spirit and beauty of God's creations and her love for Him.
