Artist: Loralee Nicolay
Title: She Brushed The Dust From Off Her Wings
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 40 x 30 inches
Price: $1600
Artist Statement: The title of this piece is a line from “To A Butterfly” by William Wordsworth. While he was a relentless hunter, his sister was gentle and careful not to harm the fragile creature. "She feared to brush the dust from off its wings."
In my imagination, I was the butterfly and I brushed off my own dust, a symbol that I was ready to take flight. I didn't intend to paint a butterfly into this piece, but there it was. They have often been a symbol to me of miracles, growth, and rebirth.
