As a nurturing, protective, and self-sacrificing figure, the hen embodies the qualities of care and devotion that are central to the Christian faith. In fact, Jesus himself alluded to the hen's loving nature when he lamented over Jerusalem, expressing his desire to gather its people “as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings” (Matthew 23:37; Luke 13:34)
