Artist Statement: A recent conversation with a friend helped me connect some patterns I’ve noticed in difficult relationships. We discussed the emotional labor that goes into maintaining relationships and repairing misconceptions, regardless of outcome, perception, or reciprocity.
Artist Bio: Marissa Albrecht is a mixed-media artist based in Orem, Utah, working in collage, assemblage, and installation. Her practice explores the discarded, altered, and abandoned, creating visual connections between unrelated materials and places to elevate the ordinary and invite closer attention to everyday surroundings.
Originally from Southern California, she earned her BFA from Brigham Young University-Idaho and MFA from Brigham Young University. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Orem Library Hall, Finch Lane Gallery, Bountiful Davis Art Center, and Salt Lake Community College, as well as group shows at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Springville Museum of Art, St. George Art Museum, and Irvine Fine Arts Center.
Marissa also teaches drawing, painting, design, and new genres as an adjunct instructor at BYU and UVU, encouraging students to create with curiosity and resourcefulness.
