Artist Statement: Paperwhites are a quiet declaration of renewal. Forced from dormancy, they bloom in the heart of winter when light is scarce and beginnings feel most fragile. I am drawn to their true white petals and the way light and shadow move across them, revealing subtle color where none seemed to exist before. Their fragrance fills my home each year around Christmas, marking a season of reflection and intention. I painted these flowers for what they symbolize—purity, sweetness, and innocence, as well as hope, renewal, and new beginnings. This painting reflects the courage of starting fresh, trusting unseen growth and welcoming what is quietly unfolding.
Artist Bio: From the time she was a child, creating was never just a pastime for Marsha—it was how she expressed herself, connected with others, and discovered who she was. She drew, crocheted, and made things with her hands not to keep, but to share. Each creation gave her confidence and a quiet sense of pride, especially when someone else cherished what she made.
As she grew older, art became more than enjoyment—it became belonging. In high school, her art classes and dance company helped keep her grounded and present. Creating became her refuge and her identity. Being an artist wasn’t something she did, it was part of who she was becoming.
That connection to art has never faded but only deepened. Whether she paints oceans, landscapes, flowers, or animals, each subject evokes something different within her. The ocean and vast landscapes give her stillness, reflection, and space to look inward. Flowers and animals stir awe, fascination, and deep gratitude for the beauty she believes God has placed in the world. Painting allows her to honor those gifts—and share what she sees with others.
Marsha doesn't just paint what something looks like—she paints what she feels when she sees it. She wants her viewers to notice the curve of a petal, the contrast in a distant horizon, the movement of water, the subtle shadows that shape life. More than anything, she hopes others will feel the same wonder, appreciation, and joy that she experiences when she creates.
