Artist Statement: Often, to fill the measure of your creation means to bring life into the world. A woman’s God-given role of providing a physical body to God’s spirit child is to give him or her mortal life. Motherhood, creating and nurturing new life is certainly part of filling the measure of our creation, but there is much more.
To choose the Savior, and follow Him is part of our creation.
The woman who stands with the veil lifted is a protector and a guide. A guardian angel? An ancestor?
The women in the archways are holding objects that represent the Savior Jesus Christ.
Living Water - she holds a pottery jug and serves water, necessary to mortal life.
Bread of Life - she holds sheaves of wheat representing the staff of life.
The Light of the World - she holds a candle, providing physical needs of light and warmth.
She who holds the tiny bird reminds us of a woman’s gift:
They talk about a woman’s sphere
As though it has a limit.
There’s not a place in earth or heaven,
There’s not a task to mankind given,
There’s not a blessing or a woe,
There’s not a whispered yes or no,
There’s not a life, death or birth,
That has a feather’s weight of worth
Without a woman in it. Anon
We find that life is expressed by service in unlimited ways. In losing ourselves in the dailiness of life, our life is measured. And there our creation is fulfilled.
