Artist: A Anderson
Title: Medea
Medium: Oil Paint on Wooden Canvas
Price: $350
Dimensions: 20x16 inches
Artist Statement: When learning about the story of Medea in a Greek Myth class, I was fascinated by the concept of rage, specifically in women. In the story, Medea’s husband (Jason) marries her because she is foreign and interesting, but he soon loses interest in her. After learning about Jason’s infidelity, she loses her sanity, murdering him and their children. For this painting, I wanted to capture the build-up to that event. She is caught in a silent, deadly rage. The flowers she’s holding symbolize anger and revenge, alluding to her future actions.
