Artist Statement: This painting draws on reference photos and inspiration during my artist residency with the Center for LDS Arts in New York last year. It examines the paradox of human organization and how inherently chaotic beings continually attempt to structure their existence. There’s an audacity in believing something we create is worth our time and resources and then acting on that belief. A crosswalk becomes a contract, strangers agreeing to align their paths for a moment. Beneath this choreography lies a vast collection of individual lives, dynamic and unresolved. We experience the beauty of a self-imposed framework mixed with the variety of human experience.
