Artist Statement: This series is my personal creative journey: Where I started in painting and drawing; my exploration of fiber art, when I decided to draw with my sewing machine; to where my art has evolved to today, creating 3D embroidery. These pieces are simply showing my process through this evaluation. The embroidery floss is my pallet and the needle is my paintbrush. My background in painting has allowed me to explore the material using techniques from the worlds of painting and drawing, engaging both traditional and innovative techniques with density, texture, pattern, value, and color. Using thread instead of paints has allowed me to bring new purpose to painting and the creative process. My work blurs the lines between fine art and craft. I like to think I can reclaim the word, “craft,” which contains the idea of an unusual frame of knowledge and skill passed on or inherently bestowed genetically from generation to generation. I like to consider myself a rebel in the fine arts world with ambitious inspiration to push the boundaries of what is considered contemporary art with the materials we use, always exploring, experimenting through trial and error, always evolving. "I am not afraid of storms” in my creative journey.
