Artist Bio: Nancy Andruk Olson creates lush, dreamlike landscapes that evoke an imagined world of vivid color and expressive gesture. Working quickly and directly, she embraces improvisation, impressionist techniques, and the dynamic interplay of materials. Many of her pigments are handmade, allowing her to achieve the heightened chromatic intensity that defines her visual language.
A lifelong painter, Andruk Olson began her practice in childhood alongside her mother, an art teacher. Growing up in Los Angeles, she was deeply influenced by frequent visits to the Norton Simon Museum, whose renowned impressionist and post-impressionist collections continue to inform her aesthetic. She studied at Art Center College of Design as a high school student and earned her BFA in Painting from Brigham Young University, working closely with Bruce Hixson Smith. She later completed a post-baccalaureate program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
