Artist Statement: Like the others in this series, this piece deals with the “new beginnings” of life and death. The red circle represents the “beginning” that is death, while the golden circle represents the “beginning” that is life. A kingfisher's most important physical attribute is its beak, a vital tool that can secure every kind of food, from fish and snakes to other small animals. With every take-off a kingfisher must trust in its beak and the promise of a new day.
