Artist Statement: Through my art, I aim to celebrate my heritage and women & children of color. With this piece in particular - ‘Once Upon an Ancestor’ it focuses on the matriarchal figure of a grandmother. Drawing from personal experiences as child of immigrants, I seek to bring to life the enchanting stories passed down through generations, imbuing them with the same sense of wonder and magic as classic fairy tales, and empowering children of color to connect with their ancestral roots.
