Artist Bio: Award-winning artist Julia Blake has an impressive ability to work across many styles from abstract to figure. She tends to use vivid colors, high contrast and bold strokes to create aesthetic and meaningful works. She was a peer and client nominated finalist for 40 Women to Watch Over Forty. She trained privately and briefly at Rhode Island School of Design and at the MFA in Boston. She is represented by The Portland Art Gallery in Maine. Her art is in private collections in 25+ states from Hawaii to Massachusetts as well as Europe and Asia. She is the co-founder with J. Kirk Richards of The Artist Common, a place for artists of all levels to come together in an historic New England church. She recently moved from Boston to SLC to be near her adult children.

Artist Statement: ‘Present=Perfection’ speaks to the concept of living in the present and being content with what we are right now. I’ve been exploring themes of Heavenly Mother in my art for over a decade and She is usually a tree or an abstract. This time She is both and She is with her daughters. We are part of Her creation and we create as She does. Our understanding of Her is far from complete, but to quote Eliza Snow ‘truth is reason’ and reason tells me She is very pleased with what we are doing to seek Her and see Her in us. The composition of these abstract birches is gray to celebrate that the issue is not black and white–most aren’t. There is beauty in the gray and in the unknown. And there is beauty in today.
