Artist Statement: A mother holds her daughter among delphiniums as they look toward a sunlit grove. As they experience nature’s beauty together, they connect in a moment that nurtures them both. The mother provides safety, support, and experience. The daughter encourages the growth and development of her mother and provides joy and wonder. The challenges of motherhood make me think about the role of nature and nurture. I often pressure myself to do everything right, as if, by nurturing them perfectly, their natures might also be perfect. I remind myself that each new day, even each new moment, is an opportunity to connect with my child. The best I can do is love my children with my whole heart and enable them to become the best version of themselves.
Artist Bio: Sage Hastriter is a mother of three young children and an artist devoted to capturing the beauty of motherhood and faith. Her work seeks to honor the sacred, fleeting moments of family relationships, while also reflecting on the divine love of the Savior. Through themes of tenderness, safety, connection, and light, she creates pieces that feel heartfelt and timeless.
