Artist Statement:
My series of gouache paintings draws inspiration from love tokens and 18th-century folk art portraiture. This piece explores the bond between humans and animals. The owl, a creature often associated with wisdom and intuition, serves as a metaphor for the depth and complexity of relationships. The scarlet hues evoke a sense of warmth and intensity, reflecting the emotional depth inherent in love.
Artist Bio:
Cambria Evans studied Graphic Design at the Rhode Island School of Design where she fell in love with the medium of gouache. While still in school, she secured her first children's book deal with Houghton Mifflin for Bone Soup, leading to further opportunities as a writer and illustrator for multiple publishers. As an Art Director for Martha Stewart, she created artwork and designs for Martha Stewart Crafts specializing in gift wrap, stationery, and all things Halloween. Evans recently reconnected with gouache and is inspired by the concept of Greek daemons, 18th-century love tokens, and miniature portraits. After living in NYC and LA for the last 20 years, she now resides in Utah in a haunted house.
