Artist Statement: This piece is a word cloud made of thread, using reference images of handwritten words provided by the artists of the Certain Women Art Show. The artists answered three questions about their self-perception. 

What word best describes the way you are expected to act by others? (Yellow)

What word do you yourself believe really describes you? (Cyan)

In one word, how do you believe God would describe you? (Magenta)

The inspiration for the form's questions comes from a behavioral science assessment tool, used globally by large organizations, to help individuals identify their strengths and and possible sources of stress. The bigger the differences between the expectations of others and the way we perceive ourselves, the greater the internal conflict. The more consistencies among words identifies our strengths. The final question helps us to identify our aspirations.

This reflective exercise is a measurement of self-perception that may give us insight into the internal conflicts, the personal strengths and the divine aspirations of women. In reflecting on these responses, we can gain a better understanding of what it means to us to fulfill the measure of our creation.
