Artist Statement: Wandering to the Valley captures the quiet pause after rain, when the world feels freshly awakened. Seen through the soft blur of a windshield, a winding road meanders towards the open valley below. The lingering droplets suggest evidence of the past and finding joy in a day that wasn’t ideal but still beautiful in its own right.
Artist Bio: Shelly Coleman is a Utah-based artist whose work delves into the connections between memory, nature, and the fleeting wonder of childhood. A graduate of Utah State University with a BFA in art, she remains an active and engaged member of the local arts community.
Drawing inspiration from her love of nature, family, and storytelling, Shelly creates pieces that invite viewers to reflect on their own memories and embrace the beauty found in life’s impermanence. Her Road series uses the imagery of travel as a metaphor for life’s journey—celebrating the quiet, everyday moments where meaning and beauty reside.
As a mother of four, Shelly finds endless inspiration in the imaginative worlds of her children. Their doodles, stories, and spontaneous gestures influence her Foggy Window paintings—dreamlike works that capture the nostalgia of road trips, the freedom of uninhibited creativity, and the tender transience of moments that slip away too soon.
