Artist statement: In a middle class, immigrant family home, no container goes without being repurposed until it is no longer useable. In this case, a strawberry plant found its new home in an old Kikkoman soy sauce bucket.
Artist Bio: Amanda Yim is a Cambodian-American artist from the Bay Area, California. She recently graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Art. She works primarily in oil and acrylic. Her paintings depict the mundane and routine moments in life and shift them into a softer lens. The main subjects of her paintings are centered around her family and Cambodian heritage. Through her work, she aims to tell her story of what it is to be a first-generation Cambodian-American.
