About the Artwork:
This piece started from a mistake painting that I repurposed into an embroidered plant. This imagined jungle features both new and repurposed paper and fiber. It represents the place where you can fearlessly have fun and make mistakes.
About the Artist:
Leslie Espino is a female environmental scientist working in a male-dominated STEM career. She creates sustainable art because it is the only time she is free from expectations. Leslie creates hand-stitched and layered paper pieces with a storybook style. These pieces are created with both new and repurposed materials to reduce waste. Leslie hopes these paper stories encourage viewers to rediscover their inner child and connect with their environment using their imaginations.
