Artist Statement: I've been exploring our relationship with color and pattern for a few years now in watercolor pieces like this, and I cannot mentally disconnect these patterns from quilts. When I think of architecture, I think of home. It's what I do professionally so it's a natural connection. Being raised by a mother who quilts, I associate home with the comfort of a quilt. For being such a soft thing, quilts have a lot of structure to them.
Artist Bio: Anson Peterson Fillerup lives in Draper, Utah and works professionally as an architectural and interior designer. His artistic work is an extension of his philosophy when designing houses with a focus on simplification and nostalgic forms. Color and the way we relate to it has been a subject of exploration for years. Recent work has an emphasis on patterns and forms that trigger memory. Abstraction and architecture both have been an obsession since adolescence.
