Artist Bio: Katie Kortman received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from BYU and a Masters in Education from the University of Utah. Katie showed at Phillips Gallery in SLC from 2003-2007 before moving across the country and around the world (she currently lives in Japan). While having her 4 children she continued to create art but also evolved her art career into teaching, textile design and later fashion design. She was a contestant on Season 19 of Bravo’s Project Runway, and launched a fashion line that included pieces created from her original paintings. You can learn more at Katiekortman.com
Artist Statement: I want to create beautiful colors, shapes, textures and worlds of abstract line that don’t exist until put on paper. Every stroke of paint or pencil determines what I do next on the paper. My work is not preconceived, it dictates itself as I lay down each color and shape.
I love the gifts of creativity that God gave to me–whether through art, fabric design, fashion design, or teaching. I am able to use these gifts to make the world a happier, more colorful place.
