Artist Statement: Utah Lake was once known to be a clear, pristine desert lake teeming with fish and large wildlife at its shores. As more people arrived in the valley, the lake was overfished, nonnative fish species were introduced, and pollutants were dumped into its waters, causing severe damage and abuse to its ecosystems. Much has been done over the past few decades to rehabilitate the lake. It may not ever be restored to its former state, but we can continue to choose now to protect it and see just how beautiful it still is and all of the life it continues to support. Go out to the lake, listen to the birds and how the waves lap the shoreline, watch for the fish jumping along the shores, enjoy the torquoise waters in the day and the explosion of colors at sunset reflected in the vast expanse at night.
Artist Bio: Whitney enjoys learning about the individual and collective human experience. She seeks to honor and explore these complexities in her art through colorful impressionism and spiritual themes.
