Artist statement: My son lives in a rural part of Wisconsin with beautiful deep woods and old barns everywhere. I have visited several times in the winter, and think there is great beauty in the snowy fields and old dilapidated horse trailers parked by a stone/wood grain silo. I am the type that would love to turn an old barn or silo into a dwelling.
Artist Bio: I paint stories. I paint dreams. My process often begins with an application of a colorful underpainting. As it dries I contemplate the story that is waiting to emerge. I am inspired by the influences growing up in Southern Colorado and being around the Latino culture—and now living in Southern Utah near many other indigenous persons. I am inspired by the lands of my ancestors, the British Isles and Scandinavia. Exotic clothing, quilts, orchids in pots and people and places. All these are my inspiration. All these things shape my artistic vision and who I am as an artist. I paint to celebrate the aspirations, the struggles, and visions of the future.
