Artist Statement: This piece is an affirmation to myself. I am Agender, Aromantic, and Asexual and navigating daily life in a society built on cisheteronormative structures is mentally and emotionally taxing. Strangers and acquaintances assume a lot of incorrect things about me, and my ability to love. They ask a lot of invasive questions about my marriage that they wouldn’t ask a cisgendered, alloromantic, heterosexual person. And many times I have felt like I needed to explain myself, to help people make sense of me. But I don’t need to do that. This piece is a reminder to myself that the only people it needs to make sense to is me and him. The words on my arm are lyrics from songs that help me feel seen.
