Artist: Stacy Weitz Minch
Title: Your Life is Your Life
Medium: oil on ACM panel
Price: $1,600
Dimensions: 16 x 27.5 inches
Artist Statement: A highly personal painting, this image represents the personal light we forfeit when we (consciously or unconsciously) allow outside sources or influences to direct various aspects of our lives (thoughts, beliefs, time, gender roles, career, etc). Although this can be a draining experience, recognizing it also gives us an opportunity to examine ourselves, take ownership of our own experience, and latch onto hope for greater personal power and authority. With some luck and determination, we can create distance (even if only in small ways) from whatever is draining us of ourselves, and proceed with dignity and grace. The title and thematic material for this painting were influenced by the poem by Charles Bukowski "The Laughing Heart." your life is your life don't let it be clubbed into dank submission. be on the watch. there are ways out. there is a light somewhere. it may not be much light but it beats the darkness. be on the watch. the gods will offer you chances. know them. take them. you can't beat death but you can beat death in life, sometimes. and the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be. your life is your life. know it while you have it. you are marvelous the gods wait to delight in you.
